This is an opinion cartoon.
Anybody in the market for an unused “Bear Bryant and Nick Saban Celebrate Saban’s 7th National Championship” cartoon?
The cartoon posted here isn’t the one I drew in advance and had ready to post after Monday night’s game. THAT cartoon has been shelved. For now. In the meantime: What the hell happened?
Welcome to the woodshed, Alabama. It's been a while
I had an inkling that Alabama was in trouble when Saban seemed bewildered at the end of the first half and ran out the clock instead of taking a shot at scoring. He had all 3 timeouts and enough time for Tua to sling 3 or 4 plays.
And then there was the un-Saban-like fake field goal at the end of the third quarter. You have 5-star talent in your utility belt and you call on your kicker to be the lead blocker on a bad gimmick play that everyone saw coming? That’s just sad.
Nick Saban needs to evaluate staff after bad play-calling dooms Tide in blow-out loss
Truth is, Dabo Swinney and his team came to win. And they had loads of fun doing it. Congratulations to the Clemson Tigers. They had a great game, a season for the ages - 15-0 - and one helluva great recruiting night.
The Crimson Tide had a magical year, too. Thanks for all the fun, drama and excitement. Good luck to all you young athletes who are graduating and/or moving on to the NFL.
Maybe I’ll get an opportunity to use that other cartoon next year. One thing’s for sure: Alabama and Nick Saban will be loaded for Bear.
