Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski connected from 47 yards out to extend the Patriots lead to 17-7 with 4:07 left in the third quarter.
Mahomes hit Travis Kelce for a touchdown pass on the opening drive of the second half to cut the Patriots lead to 14-7. The key play on the drive was a 54-yard strike from Mahomes to Sammy Watkins.
The Patriots marched down the field on the game's opening possession and also just before halftime to take a `14-0 lead over the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday.
