As per Jeff Passan of ESPN, the New York Mets have signed free-agent infielder Jed Lowrie to a two-year, $20 million deal, with SNY confirming the financials.
Lowrie, 34, slashed .267/.353/.448 in 680 plate appearances last year with 23 home runs, 99 runs batted in, 37 doubles, a .304 batting average on balls in play, .347 weighted on-base average, 122 weighted runs created plus rating, and 4.9 wins above replacement, as per FanGraphs.
He mostly played second base for the Oakland Athletics last season (136 games), racking up 1 defensive run saved with a 6.1 ultimate zone rating. In 14 games at third base, Lowrie had -2 DRS and a -0.8 UZR. He also has experience at shortstop and first base.
What this signing means for incumbent third-baseman Todd Frazier and Robinson Cano‘s presumed backup at second, Jeff McNeil will likely be revealed in short order.
