Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...
Bob Quinn: Golden Tate trade to Eagles an offer ‘we couldn’t refuse’ - Free Press
The Lions received a 2019 third-round pick in exchange for Tate, which Quinn said was a significant upgrade in the trade offers he received during training camp and even early on the morning the trade was consummated. The Eagles first called to inquire about Tate around 8 a.m. that Tuesday, and Quinn said they had increased their offer 90 minutes later.“ Trade deadline comes, you talk to other teams the previous weeks and really nothing happened until really the morning of the trade deadline. And Philadelphia called and they’re offer at 8 o’clock in the morning changed by 9:30 in the morning and I think we consummated the trade at 10:30 in the morning. So it’s one of those things where it was just an offer that we really couldn’t refuse for what the value was and for what we had left with the player, which was eight (nine) games.”
Bears writer gives three reasons why the Eagles will win on Sunday - BGN
Bleeding Green Nation already took some time to chat with Windy City Gridiron in order to preview this week’s Philadelphia Eagles versus Chicago Bears playoff matchup. (You can read that here.) Today, we’re back with three reasons why each team might lose. This format forces us to consider each team’s weaknesses, rather than just being homers. So, below are three reasons why the Bears could lose, as written by Windy City Gridiron’s Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. To see why I think the Eagles could lose, check out WCG.
The Kist & Solak Show #64: Attacking the Bears’ Defense - BGN Radio
Michael Kist and Benjamin Solak know that the Bears do a lot of things well and execute highly complex coverages, plus there’s the whole Khalil Mack of it all.. but what can the Eagles do to find success? The gang breaks down the Eagles’ offense vs. the Bears’ defense in their last preview show of the week! PLUS final predictions for the Wild Card showdown. Safety Blitz with Malcolm Jenkins: ‘Go ahead and doubt’ the Eagles again — we love it - PhillyVoice
“We feel like we can play with anybody in this league,” Jenkins said. “That’s the way we feel. The only thing we can pull from last year is the experience of playing in a playoff game. Among ourselves, we talk about not making the playoff game more than it is. A playoff game is really the same thing as a regular-season game. Obviously, there is more on the line. The task is still the game. The rules are still the same. The field is still the same. Last year, we were at home for two games. But the players on this team have the mentality to take on that challenge (of winning on the road).”
A Trip Around The Locker Room As Kickoff Nears - PE.com
The distance between Chicago and Britton, South Dakota is 663 miles, about a 10-hour car ride. For rookie tight end Dallas Goedert, it’s as close to home as the Eagles have been all season. He’ll have about 30 family members and friends in attendance. That makes Sunday extra special. “Everybody is really excited. It’s the first time I will see a lot of them in quite some time – I missed Thanksgiving and Christmas going back home – so for some of my cousins and my aunts and uncles, it’s going to be great to see them,” Goedert said. “This is a business trip, so I don’t know how much I’ll actually see them, but they all understand. It’s all part of being here, being a professional.” Goedert has 33 receptions for 334 yards and four touchdowns this year, playing 48 percent of the offensive snaps. He’s been involved quite a bit in the last two weeks as the Eagles have used more 12 personnel (one running back, two tight ends).
Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks is finally healthy for a playoff game, and he’s pretty excited about it - Daily News
This is Jordan Hicks’ fourth season but the first time the Eagles have made the playoffs with Hicks able to play. He watched and yearned last postseason.
The Keys to Every NFL Wild-Card Game - The Ringer
We know Foles is once again the key to the Eagles’ season, but the question is how he’ll do it. In three playoff games last year, Foles attempted 15 passes of more than 20 yards. In the three games to end the regular season this year, Foles attempted just eight. It’s a small sample size, but the Eagles may try to test Chicago deep. The Bears have given up the fewest explosive pass plays per snap in the league this year, according to Sharp Football Stats, but safety Eddie Jackson hasn’t practiced since Week 15 with an ankle injury, and Foles is more than capable of slinging downfield. Foles’s 2014 season featured the fourth-highest percentage of passes more than 20 air yards downfield since 2006, and he leads all active quarterbacks in yards per attempt in the playoffs (8.4). He also has a deep ball that plays differently than Carson Wentz. Before linebacker Mychal Kendricks pleaded guilty to charges stemming from insider “cheesesteak” trading, he was the star of a segment on Hard Knocks where he spilled, well, inside info on his former team.
For Nick Foles and the Eagles, It’s All Feeling Very Familiar - Sports Illustrated
Foles also reclaimed the inglorious role of leading the scout team in practices, and teammates report that nothing about the quarterback changed—not his attitude or his work habits. Second-teamers felt strange playing alongside someone so accomplished, but they say Foles retained an eerie calm every time he took the field. Here, as always, he kept quiet about last season. No bragging or reminiscing—not even when those wide-eyed backups wanted him to. “They built a statue of him,” says defensive end Chris Long, referring to a bronze sculpture unveiled in September at Lincoln Financial Field, “and he hasn’t changed a bit.”
Wild Card weekend fantasy football factors: Home/road and weather impact - PFF
The Eagles’ excellence against the run changes their opponents’ strategies. The Bears defense doesn’t do that because it is excellent across the board. It reduces passing yards per attempt by 10 percent, passing touchdowns per attempt by 20 percent, and rushing touchdowns per attempt by 35 percent. That doesn’t leave a lot to love on the Eagles offense from a fantasy perspective, especially since each of Josh Adams (-0.3), Alshon Jeffery (-0.8), and Zach Ertz (-1.2) is hurt by the venue and weather conditions. Ertz in particular has shown massive home/road splits the last two seasons, catching 2.7 more passes and scoring more than twice as many touchdowns per game in Philadelphia as elsewhere.
‘Let the kid play’: The inspiring story of Eagles fan Anthony Myers - ESPN
Myers, a sophomore at Berks Catholic High School in Reading, Pennsylvania, suffered a seizure at home early in the morning of Oct. 21, a Sunday. He was taken to the hospital, where it was discovered he had a brain tumor. A week later, the biopsy came back revealing that it was stage 3 cancer. His father, Ed, threw the question out to the doctor as a just-in-case, not expecting the answer he received. The family was in the process of gathering all the information it could before deciding on the next step. Ed mentioned the upcoming playoff game during a conversation with a consulting neurosurgeon, and wondered if there would be any medical drawback if Anthony, a running back and special-teams ace, played in the game. ”The surgeon’s answer was, ‘Let the kid play.’ In those words,” Ed said. “He said, ‘Anthony should live life and do what he loves to do -- he should go play football.’ We were kind of shocked at that response.” What happened next was beyond anyone’s wildest dreams, even in a community that was already well aware of the power of Anthony Myers.
NFC Wild-Card Playoff Preview 2019 - Football Outsiders
Despite the superficial similarities, however, it’s important to realize the key differences between last year’s championship Eagles team and this year’s edition. In 2017, the Eagles were one of the top teams in the NFL before Carson Wentz got injured, with a 29.9% DVOA and a top-five ranking on both offense and defense. The 2018 Eagles could be called the “Mean Green Machine,” but only in a statistical sense. They are the most average team ever recorded in DVOA’s history. We’re not just talking about their 0.0% total DVOA, either -- they are the first team ever to come within 1.0% of average in all three phases of the game. They faced a league-average schedule and had a league-average amount of variance. They ended the year with 8.0 estimated wins. They are the new standard for mediocrity, the benchmark by which all other teams can be measured. Expecting Playoff Nick Foles to bring back last year’s playoff squad is unrealistic. On the other hand, the Eagles have improved since Foles has entered the lineup; they were sitting at a -6.0% DVOA through Week 14 and have rebounded back to average over the past few weeks. Over the last three weeks, Philadelphia ranks ninth in offensive DVOA (5.6%) and fifth in defensive DVOA (-18.3%). While three weeks is too small a sample size to really call them the “hottest team in football,” the Eagles are playing their best football at the best possible time.
Wild Card Round Rankings - Rotoworld
8. Nick Foles (@ CHI): The Bears allowed just four opposing quarterbacks to have 16-plus fantasy points in a game this season while just three hit the 20-point mark. Chicago closed the regular season allowing just 12.5 passing points per game (fourth) while leading the entire league in passing points allowed per pass attempt (.306). Sometimes a contrarian play will break through on a short slate, but there’s not much to go objectively here to push the button on Foles.
Eagles-Bears playoff cheat sheet: matchups, storylines and predictions - The Athletic
The longer the week goes on, the more I like the Eagles’ chances. On offense, they’re uniquely suited to handle the Bears’ pass rush. The Eagles’ resurrected run defense should be able to force the Bears to stray further from the run-heavy script they prefer. If they can make the game about Trubisky, the odds have to turn to the Eagles’ favor. There’s no doubt that this is a locker room that thrives on being counted out. As such, my gift to you is that I will once again pick against the Eagles. The football gods reward the Bears for playing to win in Week 17 as Foles’ injury proves to be a bigger issue than we’re expecting. Bears 19, Eagles 14 — Bo Wulf

Bears clear betting favorites hosting Eagles on Wild Card odds - SB Nation
The Chicago Bears are 9-1 straight up and against the spread over their last 10 games. The Bears will try to keep their roll going this Sunday when they host the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. Chicago is a 6.5-point home favorite on the NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last three games against the Eagles, the Bears are 0-3 SU and ATS.
Very interesting. Nick’s a unique guy, a smart guy. He’s not going to chase the last dollar. I really wonder if he might—MIGHT—agree to be the Eagles’ ace relief pitcher for the next couple of years. Don’t know if he will. Maybe a smart franchise (Giants?) will offer him more. https://t.co/Jt0ESSB4fR
