The Lions received a 2019 third-round pick in exchange for Tate, which Quinn said was a significant upgrade in the trade offers he received during training camp and even early on the morning the trade was consummated. The Eagles first called to inquire about Tate around 8 a.m. that Tuesday, and Quinn said they had increased their offer 90 minutes later.“ Trade deadline comes, you talk to other teams the previous weeks and really nothing happened until really the morning of the trade deadline. And Philadelphia called and they’re offer at 8 o’clock in the morning changed by 9:30 in the morning and I think we consummated the trade at 10:30 in the morning. So it’s one of those things where it was just an offer that we really couldn’t refuse for what the value was and for what we had left with the player, which was eight (nine) games.”

We know Foles is once again the key to the Eagles’ season, but the question is how he’ll do it. In three playoff games last year, Foles attempted 15 passes of more than 20 yards. In the three games to end the regular season this year, Foles attempted just eight. It’s a small sample size, but the Eagles may try to test Chicago deep. The Bears have given up the fewest explosive pass plays per snap in the league this year, according to Sharp Football Stats, but safety Eddie Jackson hasn’t practiced since Week 15 with an ankle injury, and Foles is more than capable of slinging downfield. Foles’s 2014 season featured the fourth-highest percentage of passes more than 20 air yards downfield since 2006, and he leads all active quarterbacks in yards per attempt in the playoffs (8.4). He also has a deep ball that plays differently than Carson Wentz. Before linebacker Mychal Kendricks pleaded guilty to charges stemming from insider “cheesesteak” trading, he was the star of a segment on Hard Knocks where he spilled, well, inside info on his former team.

It reduces passing yards per attempt by 10 percent, passing touchdowns per attempt by 20 percent, and rushing touchdowns per attempt by 35 percent. Despite the superficial similarities, however, it’s important to realize the key differences between last year’s championship Eagles team and this year’s edition. In 2017, the Eagles were one of the top teams in the NFL before Carson Wentz got injured, with a 29.9% DVOA and a top-five ranking on both offense and defense. The 2018 Eagles could be called the “Mean Green Machine,” but only in a statistical sense. They are the most average team ever recorded in DVOA’s history. Over the last three weeks, Philadelphia ranks ninth in offensive DVOA (5.6%) and fifth in defensive DVOA (-18.3%). While three weeks is too small a sample size to really call them the “hottest team in football,” the Eagles are playing their best football at the best possible time.

8. Nick Foles (@ CHI): The Bears allowed just four opposing quarterbacks to have 16-plus fantasy points in a game this season while just three hit the 20-point mark. Chicago closed the regular season allowing just 12.5 passing points per game (fourth) while leading the entire league in passing points allowed per pass attempt (.306). Sometimes a contrarian play will break through on a short slate, but there’s not much to go objectively here to push the button on Foles.

The longer the week goes on, the more I like the Eagles’ chances. On offense, they’re uniquely suited to handle the Bears’ pass rush. The Eagles’ resurrected run defense should be able to force the Bears to stray further from the run-heavy script they prefer. If they can make the game about Trubisky, the odds have to turn to the Eagles’ favor. There’s no doubt that this is a locker room that thrives on being counted out. As such, my gift to you is that I will once again pick against the Eagles.
