Domestic violence charge against former 49ers/current Redskins linebacker Reuben Foster dropped - Tampa Bay Times

TAMPA — A domestic abuse charge against NFL player Reuben Foster from an arrest in Tampa on Nov. 24 has been dropped, according to Hillsborough County Clerk of Court documents.

Foster was due to be arraigned on Thursday morning in Tampa, but the State Attorney's Office filed paperwork to dismiss the charges Wednesday.

Foster was in Tampa in November as a member of the San Francisco 49ers and was arrested the night before the 49ers played the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium. The arrest occurred at the Grand Hyatt, which was the team's hotel.

His ex-girlfriend, later identified as Elissa Ennis, alleged that Foster "slapped her phone out of her hand, pushed her in the chest area and slapped her with an open hand on the left side of the face," according to police.

Foster was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence and spent the night in jail before he posted a $2,000 bond less than two hours before the Bucs and 49ers kicked off. The 49ers swiftly announced they were releasing Foster that morning.

A former first-round pick out of Alabama, Foster was claimed by  Washington, but is currently on Commissioner's Exempt List, unable to play until his case was resolved. The dismissal paves the way for Foster's potential return to the field this fall.

In February, Foster was charged with felony domestic violence against Ennis in California. The charge was dropped and Ennis said she lied to get money from Foster. A felony weapons violation connected with that incident that was reduced to a misdemeanor. Foster was also arrested on a marijuana possession in Alabama in January.

As a result of those arrests, Foster was suspended for the first two games this season for violating the league's personal conduct and substance abuse policy.
