Todd McShay's latest mock draft is out. And he has the Jets going offense.
With the No. 6 pick, McShay's third mock sends Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen to New York. Allen, 21, is one of the top quarterbacks in this year's class behind USC's Sam Darnold and UCLA's Josh Rosen.
Here's McShay's reasoning:
The Jets are another team in the Cousins sweepstakes, but assuming they miss out they'd be thrilled if Allen (or Baker Mayfield) was available here. Allen has the best arm talent in the draft and can make any throw. The concern over his 56.3 percent completion last season at Wyoming is probably overblown, but there are some accuracy issues with multidimensional throws. He's more of a project than some other QBs in this class, but he definitely has the highest ceiling.
Allen's stock has never been higher than it is now. Despite throwing for just 1,812 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions in 11 games last year, the signal caller wowed scouts with his arm at the NFL Scouting Combine. At one point, Allen dropped a ball right in in the hands of the receiver roughly 70 yards down the field.
You can watch clips of Allen throwing here.
Allen is one of the more polarizing players in this year's draft. While some love him, others question his ability to be a consistent player. Allen has the perfect build for a quarterback (6-5, 233 pounds), and that arm, but he struggled with accuracy and footwork at Wyoming. He has a ton of upside, but if his accuracy doesn't improve, he could be another first-round bust.
Here's more from NFL.com's draft profile
Likely be the biggest boom-or-bust quarterback prospect in the draft. Allen's size and arm talent are prototypical for early first-round picks, but it's rare to find a quarterback with such a low college completion rate become a successful pro. Allen's receivers struggled to separate, but there were plenty of times where his lack of anticipation and post-snap plan did him in. Allen can make some truly special throws, but his ability to improve the mental part of his game will determine whether he's a good NFL starter or just another big, strong-armed guy.
