GAME NOTES | FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

  • USWNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (Including this match): Morgan (217), Dunn (141), Horan (140), Lavelle (94), Davidson (52), Krueger (43), Rodman (30), Girma (27), Murphy (18), Shaw (6), Albert (3)
  • This starting XI features 10 different players from the lineup that started the USA’s opening match at the Concacaf W Gold Cup against the Dominican Republic. Midfielder Korbin Albert is the only player from that starting XI also making the start tonight against Argentina.
  • The lineup averages 27.0 years of age and 69 caps per player and features three of the team’s most-capped players in Morgan, Dunn and Horan.
  • Five players in this Starting XI played against Argentina when the teams met most recently in the 2021 SheBelieves Cup – Tierna Davidson, Casey Krueger, Rose Lavelle, Lindsey Horan and Alex Morgan.
  • Captaining the team for the 19th time in her USWNT career, Lindsey Horan earns her 140th cap as she sees her first international action of 2024. Horan led the USA in total minutes played in 2023 and was tied for second in scoring with five goals on the year.
  • Casey Murphy is set to make her 18th international appearance and is coming off a 2023 campaign in which she recorded a shutout in all six of her starts. Murphy’s six-game shutout is tied for the longest of her career and her 13 total shutouts are tied with Mary Harvey and Saskia Webber for sixth all-time in USWNT history.
  • The 2023 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year, Naomi Girma will make the 25th start and 27th appearance overall of her international career. The stalwart center back finished 2023 third on the USWNT in minutes played and prior to the USA’s year-opening win over the Dominican Republic, had started each of the USA’s last 11 games, helping the team to nine shutouts during that span.
  • After coming off the bench to score in Tuesday’s win over the Dominican Republic, Alex Morgan makes her first start for the USWNT since Oct. 29 as she earns her 217th cap. Morgan now has 122 career international goals, just eight away from tying her childhood idol Kristine Lilly for fourth on the USA’s all-time goals list. Morgan tied for the team lead with five assists in 2023, her most in a calendar year for the USA since 2013
  • The youngest player in today’s starting lineup, Jaedyn Shaw will earn her sixth cap as she makes her second career start for the USWNT. Shaw made her first career start on Dec. 5 against China PR in her hometown of Frisco, Texas and scored a late game-winning goal. The 19-year-old was the 32nd teenager to score for the U.S. and netted her first goal in her second cap on Oct. 29 against Colombia. Olivia Moultrie became the 33rd when she scored twice on Feb. 20 vs. DR.
  • Tierna Davidson will make her 52nd international appearance as she makes her third start for the USWNT since the start of 2023. The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion and 2021 Olympic Bronze Medalist suffered a torn ACL in March of 2022 and missed out on the 2023 World Cup as she returned to full form and fitness but made two starts in the USA’s fall matches against South Africa (Sept. 24) and China PR (Dec. 5).
  • Coming off a strong performance on Tuesday night against the Dominican Republic, Korbin Albert makes her second consecutive start for the USWNT as she earns her third cap. The Illinois-native and Paris Saint-Germain midfielder played a career-high 76 minutes against the Dominican Republic and tallied four shots on the night, putting one on target and rattling another off the crossbar.
  • Rose Lavelle will earn her 94th cap for the USWNT as she makes her first start of 2024 and just her third appearance for the USA following the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Lavelle missed the USA’s September and October 2023 camps due to injury, but returned to the pitch and started the Dec. 2 match against China PR and came on as a late second-half substitute in Tuesday’s win over the Dominican Republic.
  • Despite only appearing in eight matches in 2023, Lavelle was third on the team with four assists and tied for fourth with six total goal involvements (two goals and four assists).
  • Crystal Dunn ranks 25th all-time on the USWNT’s cap charts and will make her 141st international appearance with tonight’s match against Argentina. Dunn made 14 appearances – all of them starts – in 2023 while helping lead the U.S. defense to a program record 0.17 goals allowed per game, conceding just three goals in 18 total games last year.
  • Casey Krueger will make her 27th career start and 43rd international appearance overall for the USWNT. A versatile defender, Krueger made four appearances for the USWNT in 2023 – two of them starts – as she returned to action following the birth of her son, Caleb, in July of 2022.
  • Trinity Rodman makes her first start of 2024 as she earns her 30th cap for the USWNT. Rodman, who made her international debut at Dignity Health Sports Park on Feb. 17, 2022, was the only player to appear in all 18 matches for the USWNT in 2023 and led the team with 10 total goal involvements, tallying five goals and five assists.
