GAME NOTES | FIVE THINGS TO KNOW – HAITI

  • USWNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (including this match): Sauerbrunn (204), Morgan (193), O’Hara (155), Horan (112), Pugh (75), Lavelle (74), Sullivan (29), Smith (17), Fox (15), Cook (11), Murphy (6)
  • Today’s starting lineup averages 80 caps per player with four players – Sauerbrunn, Morgan, O’Hara and Horan – having 100+ caps. Four players on this roster – Smith, Fox, Cook and Murphy – have fewer than 20 caps and will all be making their first-ever appearance for the USWNT in a World Cup or Olympic qualifier.
  • Four players in this starting lineup featured in the USA’s last meeting against Haiti, which came in the opening match of Concacaf Olympic Qualifying on January 28, 2020. Lavelle, O’Hara and Sauerbrunn all started that match in Houston while Horan came on as second-half substitute and scored the USA’s third goal in the eventual 4-0 victory.
  • Center back Becky Sauerbrunn will captain the USWNT for the 33rd time as she makes her 204th international appearance.  This will be Sauerbrunn’s 18th start and 19th cap for the USA at a Concacaf Qualifying event, having played in World Cup Qualifying in 2010, 2014 and 2018 and Olympic Qualifying in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
  • Goalkeeper Casey Murphy will make her Concacaf Qualifying debut as she earns her sixth career cap and makes her fourth appearance of 2022. Murphy, who earned her first cap with the USWNT just seven months ago in a 3-0 victory over Australia in Sydney on November 27, has four clean sheets in her previous five caps.
  • Defender Alana Cook will make her seventh start of 2022 as she makes her qualifying debut in what will be her 11th international appearance overall for the USWNT. Cook leads the team with 504 total minutes played in 2022 and tallied a pair of assists in the USA’s April 9 win over Uzbekistan. This will be the fourth time Cook and Sauerbrunn have started together at center back. They started together most recently in the USA’s 3-0 victory over Colombia on June 25.
  • Kelley O’Hara is set to earn her 155th cap, moving into a tie with Michelle Akers and Christen Press for 22nd on the USWNT’s all-time caps list. O’Hara, who scored her third career goal in the USWNT’s win over Colombia on June 28, will be competing in her sixth Concacaf Qualifying tournament, having played in Olympic Qualifying in 2012, 2016 and 2020 and World Cup Qualifying in 2014 and 2018. She has one goal and four assists in 16 Qualifying appearances.
  • Mallory Pugh will make her sixth start of 2022 as she becomes the 49th player in USWNT history to reach 75 caps. At 24 years and 66 days old, she is the youngest player to reach the milestone since Heather O’Reilly did so in 2008 at age 23. Pugh has been directly involved in a team-high 10 goals in 2022 is tied for the team lead in both goals (5) and assists (5). This will be Pugh’s 10th cap overall in a Concacaf Qualifier and her first since World Cup qualifying in 2018.
  • Midfielder Lindsey Horan will earn her 112th cap as she competes in her fourth consecutive qualifying event for the USA, having appeared in Olympic Qualifying in 2016, World Cup Qualifying in 2018 and Olympic Qualifying again in 2020. Horan led the USA in scoring with six goals during Olympic qualifying in 2020, including a goal in the tournament opener vs. Haiti.
  • Sophia Smith, the youngest player in this Starting XI at 21-years-old, will be making her Concacaf Qualifying debut in her 17th cap overall. Smith is tied for the USA lead in scoring this year with five goals and tallied twice in her most recent outing for the USA, a 3-0 victory over Colombia on June 25 in her home state of Colorado.
  • Alex Morgan will earn her 193rd cap for the USWNT in what will be her second start and third appearance overall for the USA in 2022. Morgan has a total of 19 goals in her 20 qualifying appearances for the USA, 10 of those coming in World Cup qualifying, which is tied for fourth-most in team in history. She scored seven goals in four games at World Cup qualifying in 2018, which was her most recent action at a Concacaf Qualifier for the USA. She missed Olympic Qualifying in 2020 due to pregnancy.
  • Rose Lavelle will earn her 74th career cap as she starts a fifth consecutive match for the USWNT. Lavelle is tied for the team lead in assists this year with five and has been directly involved in seven goals in the USA’s last four games (two goals and five assists). Lavelle has a combined five goals and one assist in her nine previous appearances in Concacaf Qualifying matches.
  • Midfielder Andi Sullivan will make her seventh start of 2022 in what will be her 29th international appearance overall for the USA. Sullivan, who ranks third on the team in total minutes played in 2022 with 436, will be making her second appearance for the USA in a Concacaf Qualifying event, starting and playing the full 90 minutes against Panama during 2020 Olympic Qualifying.
  • Emily Fox will make her Concacaf Qualifying debut as she earns her 15th cap for the USA. Fox will have now played in 11 of the USA’s 12 matches since the October 2021 FIFA window, making 10 starts during that span. No player has appeared in more matches for the USA over the last 10 months.
