Rams' Robert Woods suffered season-ending ACL injury at practice Friday - The Athletic

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods tore his ACL at practice on Friday, the team said Saturday. Woods, 29, is in his fifth season with the Rams.

Woods suffered the injury running a route on air in what coach Sean McVay described as a "freak accident." He pulled up with a weird feeling in his knee. Trainers later found the tear when checking the injury.

"You're sick for Robert," McVay said. "He's epitomized everything that has been right about this place. Such a great competitor. Such a tough player. Such a great football player and great person. It's so unfortunate. ... Guys will be asked to step up in his absence. You don't ever replace a player like him, but it'll certainly require a lot of guys to play better and really carry the torch because of everything that you miss without him."

In nine games this season (all starts), he tallied 45 receptions for 556 yards and four touchdowns. Woods added 46 rushing yards on eight carries and one score. The Rams captain recorded a season-high 12 receptions and 150 yards in the team's Week 5 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Woods has played in 56 of 57 games since the start of the 2018 season.

Woods' injury came one day after the Rams agreed to terms with former Cleveland Browns receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Sources told The Athletic that Beckham chose the organization after narrowing his search between the Rams and the Green Bay Packers following his release from the Browns.
