Tyler Lockett gets four-year, $69.2 million contract extension from Seahawks - Field Gulls

The most tenured wide receiver on the Seattle Seahawks depth chart is getting a big contract extension.

Tyler Lockett, whose contract was due to run out at the end of the 2021 season, has received a four-year extension with $37 million guaranteed. The total is just over $69 million according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, although it is unknown if therer are any of those void years in the final details.

Lockett is coming off his first ever 100-catch season, becoming the first Seahawks player to ever reach that milestone. He also had 1,054 yards receiving and a career-high tying 10 touchdowns, including a pair of hat tricks against the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. You might say that his best season was in 2018, when he hauled in 57 catches for 965 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 70 targets in a run-heavy offense. The Russell Wilson-Tyler Lockett pairing of 2018 was historically great.

Even though Lockett has been banged up with knee injuries in each of the past two seasons, he has still played in every regular season game bar the 2016 finale after his horrible leg fracture. At his best he is an outstandingly reliable receiver whose chemistry with Wilson has developed into something truly special.

Seattle has seldom given their offensive draft picks even one contract extension under John Schneider (and justifiably so in most cases), so that Lockett has joined Wilson as the only ones* to get two contract extensions is pretty damn significant.

(*Doug Baldwin did get two extensions but he was an undrafted signing so we’d be splitting hairs here)
