Oregon State men’s basketball coach Wayne Tinkle joined me on Monday for an in-depth discussion about winning the Pac-12 Conference Tournament and advancing to the NCAA Tournament. The No. 12-seed Beavers will play No. 5 Tennessee in the opening round of the event.

“We’ll play the whole dang team if we have to and not bat an eye,” Tinkle said. “We’re riding such a wave right now that we feel really good about it.”
On No. 5-seed Tennessee:
“They play pressure-man. They switch a lot. It’s what we saw three nights in a row from UCLA, Oregon and Colorado... we’re going to be ready to go.”
On the roles he’s had to play this season as a coach:
“I’ve been Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz, Ellen and Oprah.”
On how much he was consumed with disappointing results in the early season:
“Certainly you’re human, right? You don’t like your mind go there if it starts to drift. We’ve been doing this long enough... my daughters, I won’t get into details but they’ve had to defend me a time or two... when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”
On what changed midseason:
“We really simplified things. When we got our butts beat by Arizona, we had a seven hour meeting... we asked each other some tough questions about how we move forward and where the framework of our mind was... we simplified it... execution, playing harder than our opponent and enjoying each other out there.”
