After back-to-back years of being franchise tagged, Justin Simmons reportedly has his long-term deal in place with the Denver Broncos. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Broncos and Simmons came to agreement on the deal on Friday.

Benjamin Allbright from Broncos Country Tonight followed up with the contract details. It’s a four-year deal worth $61 million that includes $35 million in guaranteed money. That should make him one of the highest paid safety’s in the NFL at $15.25 million a year. While we await the specifics of the contract, it wouldn’t surprise me if this move will create additional cap space for the Broncos in 2021 with bigger cap hits at the end of the contract.
The Broncos had until July 15th to secure Simmons long-term, but they chose not to wait. Earlier this week, General Manager George Paton said they were close to an agreement.
“I think we’re making progress,” Paton said. “I don’t know when it will happen, but I believe we are making progress and that’s been a priority since I’ve gotten here.”
Simmons, 27, has been a workhorse for the Broncos having played in every snap last season. He landed his first Pro Bowl spot in 2020 and was a second-team All-Pro in 2019. He finished last season with a team high and career high 5 interceptions for 90 yards along with 94 total tackles.
