This coming Saturday will serve as a Moving Day for the shortened 2020 season. The Pac-12 and MAC finally move onto the field, starting their seasons and giving us 127 FBS teams playing for the remainder of the year. Florida and Georgia meet as top-10 opponents in the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party for the third-straight season. Then there's Clemson and Notre Dame moving the needle the most in terms of interest as a top-five matchup missing a key piece in Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
The top eight in this week's Power Rankings remain the same, though they do not retain the same order. Ohio State jumped Georgia after a second consecutive dominant performance by the Buckeyes. Oklahoma State dropped only two spots after losing in overtime to Texas. Cincinnati moved up one spot to sixth, sparking further College Football Playoff talk for the Bearcats (5-0).
As for looking ahead to Saturday, USC moves in at No. 20 just … because. It's time. The Pac-12 season is finally here, and the Pac-12 South title might move through The Coliseum.
Georgia must get a lot better offensively to challenge Florida. If not, a second loss will likely remove the Bulldogs from CFP consideration. Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish can go a long way toward a playoff berth by beating Clemson. Think about it, win out and lose to Clemson in an ACC Championship Game rematch, and you'd have to consider Notre Dame for the CFP.
Speaking of Moving Day, Michigan was so putrid against Michigan State that it moves all the way out of this cherished top 25. Just when we were starting top believe in the Wolverines.
