STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy apologized to Cowboys players, past players and others Tuesday afternoon for wearing a T-shirt featuring a controversial cable news network.
In a minute-long video posted to his Twitter page, Gundy said: “I want to apologize to all members of our team, former players and their families for the pain and discomfort that has been caused over the last two days,” Gundy said. “Black lives matter to me. Our players matter to me.”
During a fishing trip last week with his two sons, Gundy wore a T-shirt for One America News Network — a far-right, pro-Donald Trump cable news network rated by Media Bias/Fact Check as being "not a credible news source."
When a photo of Gundy wearing the shirt appeared on social media, superstar running back Chuba Hubbard posted a tweet saying he would not participate in any Oklahoma State activities until changes were made. He received support from several teammates and former OSU players.
Late Monday, Gundy and Hubbard recorded a video together, with Hubbard offering an apology for not approaching Gundy in person and Gundy promising changes.
