Browns too worried about ‘media and naysayers’ Super Bowl champ says - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – With another Browns loss comes more criticism. Among the hot topics after a 20-13 defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football, were Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens’ play calling and the team’s lack of offensive consistency.

Kitchens addressed the issue of blame in his post-game press conference:

“If you are looking to blame somebody, blame me. Do not blame any of our players. Do not blame any of our other coaches. Just blame me because I can take it. Just blame me. Go write your article and say that I messed the game up. Go write your article and say that it is my fault that things are not looking like it did last year because it is.”

Kitchens comments referencing the media rubbed FS1 analyst and Super Bowl champion Chris Canty the wrong way.

“I don’t understand why everybody in the Cleveland Browns organization is obsessed with what the media and naysayers are talking about in regards to their football team,” Canty said during Monday’s episode of “First Things First.” “Why don’t you focus on trying to execute better. That’s what you need to be worried about.”

Canty said the comments echo some of what Baker Mayfield has said in press conference following the Browns’ first two games of the season.

“Your head coach and your quarterback are supposed to be the ones who set the agenda and try to get the them to focus on the things that are important to winning,” Canty said. “They’re focused on everything but what it takes to win.”
