Bengals' Dre Kirkpatrick on Steelers after loss: 'We're better than them'

The Steelers topped the division-rival Bengals 28-21 in a comeback win, but the result didn’t stop Cincinnati cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick from sounding off on Pittsburgh and officiating from Sunday’s game.

“We're better than them,” Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick said after the game, according to ESPN. “They ain't better than us. Period. They ain't better than us; we're better than them. But they won, so---my hat's off to them. I'm gonna be a team player...they went out there and they fought. They got the win; we got the loss.”

The Bengals (4-2)  are still above the Steelers (3-2-1) in the AFC North standings, but Cincinnati came up short on several fronts Sunday. The Bengals were outgained 481-275 and lost the first-down battle 26-19.

Kirkpatrick also ripped defensive holding call that came on a third-and-10 with just 29 seconds left in the game and the Bengals nursing a one-point lead. On the play, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger attempted a pass deep down the right sideline. The penalty gave the Steelers an automatic first down. Two plays later, Roethlisberger found receiver Antonio Brown for a 31-yard, game-winning touchdown connection.

“Trash,” Kirkpatrick said of the holding call. “I don't even care if they fine me. Trash. Trash call. ... C'mon, man. Critical situation, man. They gotta be right on with that.”

The Bengals will face the Steelers again in the regular-season finale at Pittsburgh.
