Star quarterback Tom Brady will not be present at the open of organized team activities for the New England Patriots, which begin Monday, according to multiple reports.
Though Brady has skipped the rest of New England’s offseason program this year, missing the start of OTAs, or phase 3 of the offseason program, is more significant. The sessions are still voluntary, but this is essentially the first time players can come together as a team to run through football-specific drills. Contact is still prohibited in phase three, but teams can start practicing 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills.
Phases one and two of the offseason program are largely based on strength and conditioning, and any on-field instruction is restricted to an individual basis.
Brady had been a regular presence at New England’s OTAs in the past, but his absence this offseason may be due to ongoing tensions between the quarterback and the team’s front office.

On April 30 at the Milken Institute Global Conference in California, Brady – who will turn 41 in August – explained his lack of participation in the Patriots' offseason program as a chance to spend more time with his family and as an opportunity to return “really rejuvenated” for next season.
At the event, Brady committed to playing in the 2018 season.
He continues to be among the NFL’s top passers, coming off a season in which he completed 66.3% of his passes for 4,577 yards and 32 touchdowns, versus eight interceptions.
