In a Hall of Fame-caliber incident of obliviousness, one of the greatest baseball players of all-time had no clue about one of the greatest football players of all-time.
Ichiro Suzuki, who was elevated to the Seattle Mariners' front office last week, was oblivious to who New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was when he received a text from Brady in spring training of 2017 — according to a recent story in The Athletic.
Brady, one of the most recognizable athletes on the planet, texted Suzuki wanting to meet with him to study his stretching system and said he had gotten his number from Alex Rodriguez.
Suzuki, while in the coaches' room that spring, not only didn't recognize the phone number to the text. He also didn't recognize Brady's name.
"What's the guy's name?" asked one of the coaches.
“Some guy named Tom Brady. Who the (expletive) is Tom Brady?”

Suzuki, the 44-year-old future Hall of Famer from Japan, won't play for the rest of 2018 and plans to morph into his new front office role over the next several years. But he doesn't have immediate plans to retire, saying last week that he'd retire "once I start using a cane."
The 40-year-old Brady has also been against retiring, insistent on playing well into his 40s.
