The Ravens, on the strength of their defense and running game, built a 17-7 lead over the visiting Steelers at halftime. Baltimore's trio of Lamar Jackson, Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins combined to run for 178 yards in the first half, while the Ravens' defense held Pittsburgh to just 64 total yards.
On the game's third play, Lamar Jackson, pressured by T.J. Watt, threw an interception that was returned 33 yards for a score by linebacker Robert Spillane. Jackson quickly atoned for his early miscue, as he connected with Myles Boykin for six-yard touchdown pass on Baltimore's next possession. The Ravens kicked off the second quarter with a nine-play, 80-yard drive that ended with Edwards' one-yard touchdown run. Baltimore then put together a 15-play, 60-yard drive that set up Justin Tucker's 51-yard field goal on the final play of the half. The Ravens did lose three starters in the first half: offensive linemen Ronnie Stanley and Tyrie Phillips to injuries and defensive end Matt Judon after he was ejected for making contact with an official.
