Red Sox bring back Alex Cora as manager - New York Post

Alex Cora is back in the Red Sox dugout.

The Red Sox on Friday re-hired their former manager, who parted ways with the team after receiving a one-year suspension for the 2020 season for his role in the Astros sign-stealing scandal. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman first reported the hiring.

Cora helmed Boston from 2018 to 2019, going 192-132 in the regular season and winning the World Series in 2018.

The team’s weeks-long managerial search always saw Cora among the favorites to get the job, though Phillies information coordinator Sam Fuld was considered a serious candidate as well.

The Red Sox struggled in 2020 under manager Ron Roenicke, finishing the shortened season in the AL East basement at 24-36.
