Sean Frazier did not want to speak for others on Saturday, but his public position was unchanged from what he had been saying a month ago. Back in mid-July, shortly after the Big Ten canceled nonconference games, the Northern Illinois athletic director told anyone who would listen that the idea of playing college football this fall was fool’s gold — a prognosis that his conference has made good on with its decision to postpone fall sports.
Frazier was alone on an island then publicly, at least among college administrators. But in light of the Mid-American Conference’s decision Saturday to punt on college football this fall — and, to a lesser extent, UConn’s decision Wednesday to do the same — will others in the FBS join him and his conference now?
A better question might be this: Why haven’t more decision-makers said the silent part out loud so far?
The MAC did what none of the other nine FBS conferences have done so...
