Cincinnati Reds announcer Thom Brennamann suspended after homophobic slur caught on hot mic | TheHill - The Hill

Cincinnati Reds play-by-play announcer Thom Brennaman was suspended by the organization after uttering a homophobic slur on a live microphone.

The incident occurred between innings during the first game of a Reds doubleheader against the Royals in Kansas City on Wednesday.

The sports broadcast veteran apologized during the second game of the doubleheader, after the clip went viral.

“I pride myself, I think of myself as a man of faith,” he said. "I don’t know if I’m going to be putting on this headset again, I don’t know if it’s going to be for the Reds. I don’t know if it’s going to be for my bosses at Fox," he added later.

"I want to apologize for the people who sign my paycheck, for the Reds, for Fox Sports Ohio, for the people I work with. For anybody that I’ve offended here tonight, I can’t begin to tell you how deeply sorry I am," Brennaman continued.

"That is not who I am and never has been, and I’d like to think maybe I could have some people that can back that up. I am very, very sorry and I beg for your forgiveness," the 56-year-old concluded.

He was later removed from the broadcast.

Brennaman was hired by Fox Sports Ohio in 2006.
