A star-studded Moving Day at the 2020 PGA Championship saw nearly a handful of players tied for the lead at one point. By the end of the day, there were 11 golfers within three strokes of the lead heading into Sunday's final round at TPC Harding Park.
The first major championship of 2020 has nearly guaranteed a must-see finish with Dustin Johnson holding the 54-hole lead at 9 under while Brooks Koepka, Jason Day, Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau are among those still in striking distance. Of course, established names aren't the only ones in the mix as Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Champ and Collin Morikawa are among those who would love to kickstart their budding careers with a major win on Sunday afternoon in San Francisco.
Saturday's round was a tribute to the challenge that TPC Harding Park provides. D.J., Scheffler and Morikawa soared to the top of the leaderboard by posting 65s, but the late-afternoon groups were left grinding through foggy, windy conditions that made scoring difficult. Of the final four pairings on the course only two players, Champ and Koepka, scored under par on Saturday.

1. Dustin Johnson (-9): A scoring machine this week, D.J. has 17 birdies through three rounds. While his 65 on Saturday tied for round of the day -- and his eight birdies were the best in any major round throughout his career -- it could have been even better if not for a bogey on No. 6 and a double bogey on No. 9. Even through the putter let him down on that double, he was lights out on the greens otherwise and now has a chance to make another run at his first PGA Championship after a runner-up finish a year ago at Bethpage Black.
T2. Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Champ (-8): The rookie (Scheffler) and rising star (Champ) represent the closest thing we have to a darkhorse in this heavyweight battle, as even Morikawa has become an established name with his win after the layoff and the narrative of his made cuts streak. Champ has the PGA Tour success to his name that might put him a cycle ahead in the maturation process, but Scheffler has not let his inexperience as a pro impact his comfort at TPC Harding Park. The rookie says the course fits his style, and after shooting a 66 on Thursday and a 65 on Saturday, he's got to be considered a threat to crash the party on Sunday.
T4. Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Paul Casey (-7): There's nothing more enticing than seeing Koepka bounce back from three straight bogeys on the back nine to birdie two of his final three holes and then say that his game was better than what the score reflects. Confidence is at no short supply for the two-time defending champion as he goes for a three-peat on Sunday, though it will take a little bit better play on approach shots to avoid the kind of setbacks that put him two shots back. Morikawa defied the expectations for his game with a hot putter in his rise up the leaderboard, while Casey will be looking to change the narrative around his game as a solid player who ends up a stroke or two away from trophy-hoisting at the end of the championship.
T7. Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, Justin Rose, Jason Day, Daniel Berger, Tommy Fleetwood (-6): Just an absolute group of studs here three strokes off the lead with two major winners and two of the players with wins since the restart included in the bunch. DeChambeau was excellent on Saturday with seven birdies, the last of which was a 95-footer to close out his round of 66. Day and Fleetwood faced some of the toughest conditions on the course as some of the last players out and saw ups and downs in their ride to even par. There was no absence of spark that might indicate a fade from contention, though the pace will require a score three or four strokes better (at a minimum) to chase down the leader.
T13. Haotong Li, Xander Schauffele, Matthew Wolff, Si Woo Kim, Joel Dahmen (-5): Li didn't blow his chance to win the PGA Championship on Saturday, but the wayward drives and lack of back nine bogeys did make the proposition much tougher after the 54-hole leader shot a 73 on Saturday. A 67 or 68 is not out of the realm of possibility, but he'll need the leaders to fall back for a chance to win. Of this group the player most likely to post a 65 and challenge for the title is likely Schauffele, thought what would mark a significant improvement after shooting even par on Friday and just one-under on Saturday.
T34. Justin Thomas and eight others (-1): At one point in the early part of the day, J.T. was up inside the top 20 and just four strokes off the lead following a birdie train on the front nine. Unfortunately, the No. 1 player in the world ran out of steam coming in and lost his place on the leaderboard with a couple of contention-costing bogeys down the stretch.
T43. Rory McIlroy and eight others (E): It looked like Rory might be ready to make some noise after two uninspiring rounds, but four bogeys on his final six holes kept the two-time PGA Championship winner from being in the mix heading into Sunday. McIlroy has been average off the tee this week -- below average for his standard -- and that's kept him from scoring opportunities that are needed to keep pace with the leaders.
T59. Tiger Woods and eight others (+2): Thursday's 68 by Woods created a buzz and ultimately put Tiger in position to make the weekend, but a second-straight round of 72 has left the Big Cat grinding out what's left of the tournament out of the spotlight. On one hand, it's a success that Woods has worked his way around the course without too much concern for his health, but the (new) putter that was hot on Thursday has not regained form since.
