After signing a reported 12-year, $365 million extension — the second largest contract extension in MLB history — Mookie Betts is excited to be an LA Dodger.
The former Red Sox right fielder posted a photo of him sitting outside of Dodger Stadium to Instagram on Thursday, where he expressed his gratitude to the franchise for giving him the opportunity to “enter this new chapter.”
“First I want to Thank God for all of my blessings!” Betts wrote in the caption. “Thank You @dodgers for the opportunity to be a part of something very special! I am excited about my future with this club. Thank you to the fans for your support and congratulatory messages. I can’t respond to them all, but I feel the love. A special thank you to my family, friends & team for your love and support as we enter into this new chapter. The City of Los Angeles….IT’S SHOWTIME.
Former teammates Brock Holt and Jackie Bradley Jr. commented on his post with their congrats.
“Blessings on Blessings,” Bradley Jr. wrote.
Betts also gave a press conference following the news.

Betts is sure to make an impact in LA, having won both an MVP award and a World Series title in 2018 while suiting up for the Red Sox. He was traded to the Dodgers in February for outfielder Alex Verdugo, catcher Connor Wong, and infielder Jeter Downs. As detailed by CBS Sports, Betts’s $365 million deal is the third-richest contract in sports history, trailing only Mike Trout’s $426 million deal and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’s newly-inked 10-year, $503 million contract with the team that is the richest deal in NFL history.
