Jamal Adams not first star new Jet Bradley McDougald has replaced - New York Post

Replacing a star is nothing new for Bradley McDougald.

The safety the Jets acquired from the Seahawks as part of the Jamal Adams deal Saturday was part of the post-Legion of Boom defense in Seattle, stepping into roles once occupied by stars Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

Now, the Jets will look to him to fill the void left by Adams, who has been the team’s MVP in each of the last two seasons.

McDougald, 29, has played 98 games since entering the league in 2013. He originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas with the Chiefs. He then went to the Buccaneers before signing with the Seahawks in 2017.

He has 10 career interceptions and has played both safety spots. Last year he had 70 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a half a sack. In Seattle’s playoff victory over the Eagles, McDougald had a sack, two tackles for loss and 11 total tackles.

McDougald has a reputation as a solid tackler who plays well in the box. The Jets still have Marcus Maye at free safety and third-round pick Ashtyn Davis is expected to play all over the secondary once he gets acclimated to the NFL.

McDougald is in the final year of his contract and is due to make $3.6 million this season.
