Major League Baseball's annual amateur draft has arrived. The two-day event began Wednesday night and it will be broadcast on multiple networks for the first time ever. A total of 37 picks will be made Wednesday. The remaining 123 picks of the five-round draft will be made Thursday. MLB shortened the draft from 40 rounds to five this year in a cost-cutting move amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Thanks to their 114-loss regular season in 2019, the Detroit Tigers held the No. 1 pick in this year's draft. They used it on Arizona State slugger Spencer Torkelson. That pick was expected, but there were some surprises in the top five.
We here at CBS Sports will provide instant analysis of all 29 first-round picks Wednesday, live as the selections are announced. Make sure to refresh for updates throughout the night.
