Todd Pletcher will try to join a handful of trainers who have won the Belmont four times when he sends out two horses in the 2020 Belmont Stakes on Saturday. The 52-year-old Pletcher is one of six trainers who have won the annual race at Belmont Park three times. His horses won the Belmont Stakes in 2007 (Rags to Riches), 2013 (Palace Malice) and 2017 (Tapwrit). On Saturday, Pletcher saddles Dr Post and Farmington Road in the 2020 Belmont Stakes lineup.
Dr Post is at 5-1 in the latest Belmont Stakes odds, while Farmington Road is a 15-1 long shot. The Barclay Tagg-trained Tiz the Law is the 6-5 morning-line favorite in the 2020 Belmont Stakes field. Post time for the race is 5:42 p.m. ET. Top 2020 Belmont Stakes predictions
One surprise: Goldberg is completely fading Tap It to Win, even though he's one of the favorites at 6-1. In fact, Goldberg says Tap It to Win doesn't even hit the board. Trained by Mark Casse and ridden by John Velazquez, Tap It to Win is a perfect two-for-two this year. He is coming off a five-length, frontrunning victory in an allowance race at Belmont Park on June 4.
Tap It to Win's 16-day turnaround is a quick one for modern day horses. In addition, his chances took a big hit this week with the late addition of Fore Left, a speed horse who went wire-to-wire in Dubai in his last start. Goldberg doesn't rank Tap It to Win in his top four and won't use the horse on any of his 2020 Belmont Stakes bets.
Another curveball: Goldberg is high on Pneumatic, who's listed at 8-1 in the Belmont Stakes 2020 odds. The Steve Asmussen-trained horse was a late addition to the 2020 Belmont Stakes field, but he's the son of Uncle Mo, a three-time graded stakes winner who had Kentucky Derby aspirations before an illness forced him to be scratched.
After not running as a two-year-old, Pneumatic won his maiden special weight in February and an optional claims race in late April at Oaklawn Park. Then, he took third at the graded Matt Winn late last month. Pneumatic's outside post position could bode extremely well for the three-year-old colt.
"Pneumatic has made just three career starts, but he has improved every time," Goldberg told SportsLine. "His two wins came when he was drawn outside, while his one loss came when he drew the rail. He has drawn the far outside post on Saturday."
