The post-NFL Combine mock drafts are rolling in, with ESPN’s Todd McShay unveiling his on Tuesday. He has New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman staying at No. 4 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and using the pick on Clemson edge rusher Isaiah Simmons. Here’s why:
The Giants defense needs everything, and everything is exactly what Simmons brings to the table. He was a factor in every single statistical area in 2019 for the Tigers, and his blazing 4.39-second time in the 40, wild 39-inch vertical and ridiculous 11-foot broad jump took Indianapolis by storm. It was one of the best workouts we’ve ever seen from a linebacker. A converted safety, Simmons fits what NFL teams are looking for today and can affect so many areas of the game. New York handed 28.2 points per game to opponents last season, more than all but two other teams. Let’s jump start the defensive rebuild with a true difference-maker.

On Monday, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah released his post-Combine mock and had the Giants using their first-round pick on a hog molly: Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs. But McShay doesn’t have Wirfs coming off the board until the ninth pick, when he goes to Jacksonville Jaguars. In fact, McShay doesn’t even have Wirfs as the first offensive lineman being drafted, with Louisville’s Mekhi Becton going to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 8.
McShay has the top of the draft looking like this:
1. Cincinnati Bengals - LSU QB Joe Burrow
2. Washington Redskins - Ohio State DE Chase Young
3. Detroit Lions - Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah
