NFL Draft 2020: Blockbuster Giants-Dolphins trade, but not for Tua Tagovailoa? Eagles trade up for CeeDee Lam - NJ.com

The NFL is moving forward with plans to have the NFL Draft conducted on time despite the coronavirus pandemic, and so that means the league is officially less than a month out from the big event.

Big-time free agency isn’t over yet — especially not with Jadeveon Clowney and Cam Newton still available — so things can still rapidly change, but for the most part teams have a pretty good idea of the types of players they’ll be targeting next month.

The biggest question remains what happens after the top two picks. Who between the Chargers and Dolphins will trade up to draft a quarterback, whether that’s Oregon’s Justin Herbert or Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa? Will the Giants or Lions be willing trade partners to help them out?

That will be answered soon enough.

In the meantime, here’s our latest mock draft of the first round.

1. Cincinnati Bengals: QB Joe Burrow, LSU. There’s no chance the Bengals actually let him slip by and trade back. Right?

2. Washington Redskins: EDGE Chase Young, Ohio State. Ron Rivera is strangely comfortable with Kyle Allen if Dwayne Haskins doesn’t work out. Adding another QB into the mix seems unlikely.

3. Detroit Lions: CB Jeff Okudah, Ohio State. After trading Darius Slay, the Lions signed Desmond Trufant, but that’s not enough, especially since Okudah is probably the best player available here.

Dolphins get: Giants first-round pick (No. 4), fifth-round pick (No. 150) and seventh-round pick (No. 248), 2021 sixth-round pick

Giants get: Dolphins first-round pick (No. 5), second-round pick (No. 56), fourth-round pick (No. 141) and 2021 fourth-round pick

4. Miami Dolphins (via Giants): QB Justin Herbert, Oregon. The Dolphins have to compete with the Chargers’ desire for a quarterback, too, and the Giants are in the sweet spot. It’s a lot to give up for one slot, but they might have to pony up to stave off Los Angeles. This is just a guess, but with the lack of medical testing or private workouts with Tua Tagovailoa due to the coronavirus, it wouldn’t be surprising if a team fell more in love with Herbert.

5. New York Giants (via Dolphins): OT Tristan Wirfs, Iowa. Dave Gettleman has never traded back in the first round before so it’s always a risk projecting him to change his nature. Still, if the Giants were ever going to trade back to accumulate more picks, this is the year to do it especially with offensive line being their biggest need and three potential studs (Wirfs, Mekhi Becton, Jedrick Wills) on the board. Wirfs is an athletic freak with the versatility to play left tackle, right tackle or guard. He’ll start right away.

6. Los Angeles Chargers: QB Tua Tagovailoa, Alabama. The Chargers should be ecstatic if he falls this far. Some think, if healthy, he could have a greater ceiling than even Burrow.

7. Carolina Panthers: DT Derrick Brown, Auburn. The Panthers will be in a good spot here to take whoever they feel is the best defensive player available. This just so happens to fall in line with arguably their biggest need at defensive tackle. Brown should be disruptive, quickly.

Raiders get: Cardinals first-round pick (No. 12)

Cardinals get: Raiders first-round pick (No. 8), third-round pick (No. 80), fourth-round pick (No. 121) and 2021 second-round pick

8. Las Vegas Raiders (via Cardinals): WR Henry Ruggs, Alabama. This feels like an old-school Al Davis pick, getting the fastest receiver, but Ruggs is much more than just fast. The Raiders need big-name players on their move to Las Vegas, and Ruggs might be the most exciting skill position player in this draft. The Jaguars might get him if they don’t.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars: LB/S Isaiah Simmons, Clemson. Linebacker isn’t a major need, but Simmons is too great of a talent to pass up here, especially since he has the versatility to play all over the place.

10. Cleveland Browns: OT Mekhi Becton, Louisville. Even after signing Jack Conklin, they still need a left tackle. Becton (6-8, 365 pounds) is a physical freak that can plug in right away.

11. New York Jets: OT Jedrick Wills, Alabama. The Jets have completely overhauled their offensive line, and Joe Douglas shouldn’t be finished yet. George Fant and Chuma Edoga aren’t good enough tackles to protect Sam Darnold. Wills is a significant upgrade.

12. Arizona Cardinals (via Raiders): EDGE K’Lavon Chaisson, LSU. The Cardinals have had a stellar offseason, already filling major needs at wide receiver, linebacker and at defensive tackle. They could stand to find another edge rusher to pair with Chandler Jones.

13. San Francisco 49ers: DT Javon Kinlaw, South Carolina. A receiver would make sense here, but they can find a talented receiver with their next pick. Kinlaw should be disruptive and can help to replace DeForest Buckner.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: OT Andrew Thomas, Georgia. Now that the Buccaneers have Tom Brady, they need to protect him. Enter Thomas.

15. Denver Broncos: WR Jerry Jeudy, Alabama. The Broncos need a wide receiver to pair with Courtland Sutton in the worst way. Jeudy is an exciting prospect.

Eagles get: Falcons first-round pick (No. 16), seventh-round pick (No. 228)

Falcons get: Eagles first-round pick (No. 21), third-round pick (No. 103) and 2021 second-round pick

16. Philadelphia Eagles (via Falcons): WR Ceedee Lamb, Oklahoma. The Eagles already filled major needs at cornerback (Darius Slay, Nickell Robey-Coleman) and defensive tackle (Javon Hargrave) and they’re not a team that drafts linebackers or safeties early. Everyone in the NFL knows they need a wide receiver, so it’s going to cost a lot to trade up, but if Lamb falls this far, it’s worth it. He can be Carson Wentz’s go-to receiver for years to come.

17. Dallas Cowboys: CB C.J. Henderson, Florida. The Cowboys need to replace Byron Jones, and Henderson is a quality option.

18. Miami Dolphins: OT Ezra Cleveland, Boise State. The top offensive tackles are off the board at this point, but by all accounts Cleveland is rising and even if this is a bit of a reach, the Dolphins can afford to do it if he’s rated highly on their board.

19. Las Vegas Raiders: EDGE Zack Baun, Wisconsin. The Raiders have a serious need at pass rush. This isn’t a pass rushing-rich draft, but Baun should be able to step in and help.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars: WR Justin Jefferson, LSU. The Jaguars could afford to eschew picking a receiver at No. 8 because they can still find a quality complement for D.J. Chark here. It just so happens they know each other from LSU, too.

21. Atlanta Falcons (via Eagles): CB Kristian Fulton, LSU. The Falcons cornerback group is lacking for talent after cutting Desmond Trufant loose. Fulton has the length and athleticism to help fill that void.

22. Minnesota Vikings: CB Jeff Gladney, TCU. The Vikings moved on from Xavier Rhodes and lost both Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander in free agency. This is an obvious need.

23. New England Patriots: QB Jordan Love, Utah State. They can pretend they’re happy with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer all they want. That feels fake. Love is the best propsect on the board and can develop for a year before taking over.

24. New Orleans Saints: LB Patrick Queen, LSU. The Saints have a roster without many flaws, hough they could stand to add some talent at linebacker, especially with A.J. Klein leaving in free agency. Queen might be a Pro Bowler one day.

25. Minnesota Vikings: WR Denzel Mims, Baylor. The Vikings traded away Stefon Diggs and Tajae Sharpe simply won’t cut it at his replacement. Mims is a great athlete that should be able to help fill that void.

26. Miami Dolphins: S Xavier McKinney, Alabama. The Dolphins can go best player available here, and they have a need at safety anyway.

27. Seattle Seahawks: EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos, Penn State. The Seahawks, even if Jadeveon Clowney improbably returns, have next to nothing in terms of reliable pass rushers. Gross-Matos isn’t a perfect prospect, but he’d upgrade the edge rusher position, certainly.

28. Baltimore Ravens: LB Kenneth Murray, Oklahoma. The Ravens are another team without a lot of needs, though inside linebacker could be viewed as a weak-spot since C.J. Mosley left last year. Murray will be ready to contribute from the get-go.

29. Tennessee Titans: EDGE A.J. Epenesa, Iowa. The Titans signed Vic Beasley, but lost Jurrell Casey and Epenesa can help off the edge or inside on the defensive line.

30. Green Bay Packers: WR Jalen Reagor, TCU. It’s about time the Packers upgraded their receiving corps around Davante Adams before it’s too late with Aaron Rodgers on the decline. Reagor is a serious deep threat and will be a fun gadget to deploy.

31. San Francisco 49ers: WR K.J. Hamler, Penn State. The 49ers need to find a better player to pair with young stud Deebo Samuel, and Hamler could fit the bill. He’s explosive and a versatile option for Kyle Shanahan.

32. Kansas City Chiefs: CB Trevon Diggs, Alabama. The Chiefs desperately need help at cornerback after losing a couple players in free agency.
