MetLife Stadium was nearly empty for its first ever XFL game - msnNOW

Saturday’s XFL action was about as good as we could have expected in the league’s debut weekend, as there was some stellar all-around play and stadiums that seemed to be filled.

In fact, the DC Defenders’ home game against the Seattle Dragons at Audi Field in the nation’s capital saw a nearly full house.

Unfortunately, the same thing can’t be said for the New York Guardians’ first game against the Tampa Bay Vipers to open up Sunday’s action. Check out how empty MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL’s Jets and Giants, was ahead of kick off:

With a capacity of north of 82,000, this stadium was never going to be filled for an XFL game. Heck, the Giants and Jets have had a hard time filling the stadium.

Even then, this is not great optics for the rebranded XFL. Let’s hope it doesn’t continue to be a theme.
